2008 Race
"This was my first 5k ever, and I'm so happy that I
chose JFK Run the Runway as my starting point.
Registration was straightforward, and the Rotary
members and other runners were very friendly and
supportive. The only suggestion I have is to perhaps
have a shuttle that goes to and from the AirTrain. I
will be back next year with my father, my boyfriend,
and hopefully, a faster finishing time!"
"Its a very unique way of raising funds for a good cause. I wish I can do it here in our place, however I might get some negative remarks from those whose flight schedule might be disturb. More power to you and your [Rotary] club."
"I thought the race was well done. A thought: At the water station, runners were given plastic cups. Most of them would throw the cups on the runway when they were finished with the H2O. The cups would then fly away which could cause a problem with the cups being sucked into plane engines. This should be addressed, either by an announcement or having a receptacle for the cups futher along the course."
"This is great! It is very commendable. Keep it up"
"What a great location for a fundraiser. And, what a great partnership with JFK international. This has got to be one of the most unique locations for a 5K. I can only imagine what passengers in approaching airliners think when they see runners trekking across the runway."
2007 Race
"This was my first Run The Runway race and I will definitely return next year. One suggestion, whoever took the photographs, from years past, they had pictures of airplanes on the ground. This year you would not think the race was held at an airport. The photographer should have been standing right in front of the Jet Blue plane taking photos of racers as they approached. Thank you to all the Rotary personnel who really came through with flying colors." [Response: We will be adding more photographs (for 2007 race), so please keep an eye out for it.]
"It was a terrific event...well organized and well-supported.. I had an awesome time and have been talking it up to all my runner friends so that they can join up next year."
"This was my first year at the 5k Runway Run .I had a great time see you all next year."
"Had a great time, well organized. A rare opportunity to run where the big planes go! Thanks for all the legwork from the club. I will be back next year."
"As a runner and passionate for airplanes, I couldn't be more excited about this race. Great event! Great job guys!!! The Jet Blue airplane on the half-way was simple awesome. Also thanks to United Airlines for those 2 airplanes right after the starting line. I see you guys again next year!"
"First time I ran the 5K....always did the 10.....years ago. Did not like the bus thing too much, did not have that in the past. The race did start on time...or very close to it...so that was good. Mile splits would have been good. Was not really sure if had to run back to Bldg 14 or to the hanger. Overall...a good race. It's always good...especially after it's over! :-)"
"It was a fabulous day, was it not? I need to know if any of you can find out the name of the runner/walker who had a cane. One of our uniform staff and his son were quite moved and inspired by this woman's determination to complete the race course that the son stated he wanted to participate next year. The woman, by-the-way, was allowed . . . to finish the race under her own steam and was roundly cheered by the few who remained on the ramp to witness her finish."
"Hi. Thanks so much for a great run today. It's a great idea and a whole lotta fun."
"It was a pleasure doing the Race and hope to participate each year from now on."
"Thank you for a wonderful Sunday morning. The race was a most memorable experience. Although I am hurting a bit today, it was worth it. See you at future events."
"I wanted to thank all of you for putting on a great event. I (and the rest of my teammates) had a really fantastic time. Every organizer and volunteer I encountered was 100% friendly, helpful and clearly happy to be there. I'll definitely push for more of my teammates to run this race next year!"
"Thank you for inviting us to participate in the JFK Rotary Run. We had a great time and look forward to participating in future events."
